Hoxton Park got its name in 1887, when a Phillips and Co. syndicate subdivided the land. London solicitor Thomas Setrop Amos had been granted 800 acres here in 1818. Around 1857 Allan Macpherson built Bernera, a weatherboard homestead now on the Register of the National Estate. The suburb was also home to Hoxton Park Airport, a small airstrip used for training until it closed in 2008.
