Funeral director in Leura

The name Leura first appeared in 1881 on Frederick Clissold's subdivision plan, where he gave it to a waterfall, Leura Falls. Its origin has never been settled. Evidence at Lyrebird Dell in South Leura suggests Aboriginal occupation of the area may go back more than 12,000 years, and the Leura Coffee Palace opened on Christmas Eve 1892.

Leura is in the City of Blue Mountains, 100 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD, and merges with Katoomba along its western edge.

Harmony Funerals looks after Leura from our Blacktown care centre at 10 Jane Street, and we come to your home to arrange at any hour. Katoomba is among the Blue Mountains City Council cemeteries available, and we attend Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital.

How much does a funeral in Leura cost?

Our Simple Bare Essentials Cremation starts from $3,650 and our Simple Bare Essentials Funeral, held in our Blacktown chapel or at the Royal Remembrance Chapel in St Marys, starts from $6,195 (both inc. GST). We will give you a written quote for anything else.

Can you arrange a cremation in Leura?

Can Harmony Funerals arrange a burial in Leura?

Yes. We arrange burials as well as cremations for Leura. Most local families use Blue Mountains City Council cemeteries, including Katoomba, Wentworth Falls and Springwood. Cemetery fees are set by the cemetery rather than by us, so we will get you the current figures in writing before you decide.

Where can we hold a funeral service in Leura?

Wherever suits your family. We have our own chapel at our Blacktown care centre, and we also hold services at the Royal Remembrance Chapel in St Marys, at local churches in and around Leura, at the graveside, at a club or hall, or at home. Tell us what you have in mind and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.

Can you collect my loved one from a hospital or nursing home in Leura?

Yes, at any hour. We regularly bring people into our care from Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital, Katoomba and Springwood Hospital, and from nursing homes and private homes throughout Leura. Call us and we will liaise with the ward, the nursing staff or the doctor so you do not have to make those calls yourself.

How soon can a funeral be held in Leura?

It usually takes about a week to ten days to hold a funeral in Leura, which is the time needed for the medical certificates and the cremation or burial permit. Coroner’s cases take longer. Where a faith or a family tradition calls for a faster farewell, tell us straight away and we will work to it.

Do you arrange cultural and religious funerals in Leura?

Yes. We look after Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, Māori and Portuguese families, as well as services for every major faith. That can mean several days of gatherings, a viewing at home, a church service with a large choir, or particular customs around washing and dressing. Tell us what your family needs and we will plan around it.

Can a funeral director come to our home in Leura?

Yes. You do not have to come to our Blacktown care centre to arrange a funeral. We are happy to sit down with you at home in Leura at a time that suits, bring everything we need with us, and take the arrangements away with us when we leave.

Can we arrange a funeral in advance in Leura?

Yes, and it is one of the kindest things you can do for your family. We will go through the choices with you at our care centre or at home in Leura, write your wishes down and keep them on file, so that when the day comes nobody has to guess what you would have wanted. Prepaying is optional.

Do you offer prepaid funerals in Leura?

Yes. We arrange prepaid funerals for Leura families, which fixes the cost at today’s prices and takes the financial worry off your loved ones. You choose exactly what you want, we set it out in writing, and the money goes into an approved pre-paid funeral fund rather than our own account, as NSW law requires. Ring 02 9676 2561 for a plain-English explanation.

What should we look for in a funeral director in Leura?

Look for published prices, a written quote, and a funeral director who answers the phone themselves at two in the morning. We publish what our packages cost, we put everything in writing, and the person who arranges your loved one’s funeral in Leura is the person who sees it through on the day.
